Residents of Clinton-Peabody form a new tenant affairs board

Residents of the Clinton-Peabody public housing development form the new Clinton Peabody Tenant Association today.

St. Louis, MO (March 16, 2018) – Deandria Barnes—President and Treasurer, Mary Buckley—Vice President, Johnny Smith—Secretary and Claudia Grant—Sergeant at Arms, all residents of the Clinton-Peabody public housing development, formed a new tenant affairs board (TAB) today.

The function of the Clinton Peabody Tenant Association is to unite residents with the St. Louis Housing Authority (SLHA) in planning and decision making processes in order to make resident neighborhoods better places to live. The Clinton Peabody TAB will address needs and concerns and keep residents informed about their development’s activities and programs. The TAB will work with the SLHA and onsite managers to give residents a voice in overall development operation.

The St. Louis Housing Authority began steps to develop a new TAB after the former Clinton- Peabody TAB dissolved last December when one of the three members resigned. TABs must maintain a minimum of three members to be recognized as a TAB with the SLHA and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

TABs are not-for-profit organizations specifically charged with the responsibility to maintain open communication with residents to keep them informed of all resident association meetings, activities, functions; promote programs that will provide improved educational, recreational, and social service opportunities; and receive official recognition from SLHA and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) as a resident association pursuant to HUD regulations; and cooperate with other development resident associations in representing the interest of all residents.
