$9.5 Million Investment Advances the Future of Affordable Housing at Parkview Elderly

The St. Louis Housing Authority (SLHA) has been awarded $9.5 million in funding from the Missouri Housing Development Commission (MHDC) to support a comprehensive $54 million renovation of the Parkview Elderly Apartments. This award represents a major milestone in SLHA’s effort to rehabilitate Parkview Elderly Apartments and is an example of the State’s commitment to the preservation of affordable senior housing.

Originally constructed in 1973, the 12-story high rise is set to undergo extensive modernization to ensure the property’s continued operation as safe, accessible, and affordable housing for St. Louis seniors for decades to come. This investment builds on the success of recently completed capital improvements, including elevator replacements and first-floor renovations.

“This funding is a vital investment in the comfort and safety of our seniors,” said SLHA Executive Director Latasha Barnes. “We aren’t just fixing a building; we are securing a community where seniors can thrive in a safe, energy-efficient, modern and beautiful environment.”

The renovation will address structural, aesthetic, and functional needs across the development, including new common-area finishes; enhanced security through upgraded cameras and lighting on residential floors; and new, energy-efficient HVAC systems with building automation controls, a new roof system, masonry repair, new parking facilities, landscaping improvements and more.

“By leveraging this MHDC award, we are able to implement deep, sustainable changes that go far beyond surface-level repairs,” added Barnes. “This transformation reflects our dedication to providing high-quality living standards that our senior residents deserve.”

Construction is expected to commence following the finalization of the development timeline.
