James House Celebrates Community at National Night Out

James House residents gathered with community organizations, first responders, and local leaders on Tuesday, October 6, for National Night Out. The event brought neighbors together for an evening of recreation, food, and access to community resources.

SLHA ROSS Coordinator Justin Mosley, with support from the Resident Opportunity and Self-Sufficiency (ROSS) program team, helped coordinate the celebration. Together, they worked with James House staff, volunteers, and community partners to bring the evening to life.

Basketball with Shoot Ya Shot Basketball, activities with Mobile YMCA, bounce house fun from Tomcat Bounce House, and line dance instruction by India Fowler offered opportunities for residents to get involved and enjoy time together. Steve’s Hot Dogs and the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department’s Polar Cops Ice Cream Truck added to the evening’s food and treats.

Residents also connected with organizations supporting health, employment, literacy, financial well-being, and family services. Participating vendors included Employment Connection, Circle of Friends, SLHA City-Wide TAB, Crisis Nursery, Healthy Hair 2 Day, Behind It All Foundation, Ready Readers, Fathers and Families Support Center, CAM STL, St. Louis Public Library, Cornerstone (formerly Places for People), St. Louis City Department of Health, St. Louis City Office of Financial Empowerment, and Affinia Healthcare. Additional event partners included Peacemaker Defense Group.

The Circuit Attorney’s Office, St. Louis City Fire Department, and St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, including Captain J.D. McCloskey, participated in the celebration. Their presence offered residents an opportunity to connect with public safety representatives in a welcoming community setting. Dignitaries and community leaders also joined residents throughout the evening.

SLHA extends a special thank you to Justin Mosley and the ROSS program team, James House staff, and volunteers for their work in making the event possible. The agency also thanks every participating vendor, event partner, dignitary, and community leader for their support, and the James House residents who made National Night Out a celebration of their community.
